Yu Guanqun

Soprano Yu Guanqun is a regular guest at international opera houses in Europe and America. Her engagements in 2024/25 season include her role debut as Marguerite in the new production of Gounod's Faust at the Canadian Opera Company Toronto. In Berlin and Hong Kong, she takes on the soprano part in Aaron Zigman's Emigré. The soprano makes another role debut this season at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, singing Medora in Verdi's Il Corsaro for the first time.

In addition to the major Mozart roles such as Vitellia, Elettra, Contessa, Fiordiligi, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira, Yu's repertoire particularly highlights Italian works. She has already sung Leonora (Il trovatore) at the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Los Angeles Opera, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and in a new production of State Opera Hamburg; Aida at Deutsche Oper Berlin and Oper Frankfurt; she made a very successful role debut as Elvira (Ernani) at the Bregenz Festival and sang Mimì (La Bohème) in a new production at the Zurich Opera House. Yu is also familiar with the French repertoire, having sung Micaëla (Carmen) and Mathilde (Guillaume Tell) – a role which brought her a great personal triumph in a new production at Hamburg State Opera.

Yu is a winner of the Belvedere singing competition and the renowned Operalia competition. After studying in Shandong and Shanghai, she was a member of the opera studio at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
